We've been wanting to do this for a while — highlight the women who actually wear CocoLash and let you hear directly from them. Not in a polished, marketing-speak kind of way. In a "here's who she is and why she's cool" kind of way.
Alexa Bernard is our very first Customer Spotlight, and she set the bar high.
Who Is Alexa?
Alexa is a storyteller and the founder of The Bernard Perspective, a leadership and storytelling platform that centers Black women in education. She's based in New York, and if you saw her on the street you'd probably notice two things — her confidence and her style. Depending on the day, she might be in a glittering gown or bold street style. Her words: "Dressing up lets me take charge of my story. We are the main characters in our own lives, and I am going to shine in mine."
That energy is exactly why we wanted to feature her first.
We Asked Her a Few Things
Describe what you do in a way that would make a stranger at a party want to know more.
"I love dressing up because it lets me express my unique personality. Depending on the type of event, I may wear a glittering gown or bold NY street style; my outfits stand out and start conversations."
What's your getting-ready song — the one playing when the lashes go on?
"Ballistic by Savanna Hannah." (If you haven't heard it, go listen. It makes sense.)
What's something people would never guess about you?
"The people who know me best know that I am really funny and laid back. The outside world sees the stoic, serious version of me until I have determined that someone is actually a safe space to be myself around."
Coffee order?
"Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso from Starbucks. Every time."
The Best Advice She's Ever Received
This one stuck with us long after we read it:
"Feeling scared and excited are almost similar. If you want to accomplish something and you feel scared, afraid, or nervous — replace those words with excited and see where that takes you instead."
We think about that a lot, honestly. Building CocoLash has required that exact mindset more times than we can count. There's something about hearing it from someone else — someone who lives it — that makes it land differently.
Want to Be Our Next Spotlight?
This is the first in a series, and we want to keep it going. If you wear CocoLash and you've got a story worth sharing (you do — trust us), we'd love to hear from you. Send us an email at support@cocolash.com with your name, city, Instagram handle, and what you love about CocoLash. That's it. No application, no essay.
We're always looking for amazing women in our community to spotlight. That might be you.
